Demonstrating the tangible benefits of workflow automation will be the focus for software firm PrintFactory at the SGIA show in New Orleans this October.

The software solution, which utilises GMG colour technology has long delivered substantial savings in time, ink and resources for wide-format set-ups. Now, PrintFactory’s next generation cloud-based offer can support totally automated workflows - delivering further potential for unprecedented profitability gains across the inkjet print sector.

“We’ve done a lot of work to establish the true cost of running a commercial print organization and can say, with confidence, that our technology can allow double the throughput using only the same resources,” says PrintFactory’s CEO, Erik Strik. “Despite this evidence, however, few firms are capitalizing on advances in the automation of consistent colour management and more. We’re here [at SGIA] to convince forward-thinking organizations that there is a better, more profitable way of working.
“Though the PrintFactory brand may be relatively new on the block, the team behind it has been evolving the software for decades to deliver the possibilities we present today. Whether we’ve been operating under the Aurelon, GMG or PrintFactory umbrella, our purpose has always been the same: to streamline print shop operations for maximum profitability.”
With only 8%  of North America’s commercial printers currently benefiting from true automation there is huge growth potential for these platforms, that have evolved from the management of more traditional RIP workflows. Driving multiple machines from a single application is relatively commonplace. But transferring these capabilities to the cloud is set to revolutionize the industry. By delivering all the usual benefits that Software as a Service (SaaS) models bring, users can be assured of real-time updates, scalability and complete visibility. The greatest efficiencies, however, will be borne from the powerful insights the data can deliver to intelligently impact the bottom line.
“The sheer potential that production software, such as PrintFactory, can deliver to print service providers in terms of cost savings and increased productivity is immense,” says Bart Fret, who is speaking at SGIA about ‘The true cost of printing’ on GMG Americas’ behalf – PrintFactory’s distribution organization in The States. “The real focus is on the missed revenue opportunities for commercial and industrial printers not prepared to go through the initial pain barrier to bring about these profitability gains.
“When you think that automated workflows would allow one operator to process up to double the amount of print jobs – with a significantly reduced cost per job compared to a ‘normal’ workflow, clearly change is worth it. Especially considering it typically takes half the time to get the jobs on press, so you’re cutting down on the time expensive equipment is laid idle too. Not to mention the brand management benefits of getting it right first time, every time.”
To support PrintFactory’s claims, Bart will reference a number of case studies, including a US visual communications company that has doubled its turnover since implementation – cutting the time spent per job from an average of 2-4 hours, to just one hour.
