The On Demand Exposition & Conference (www.ondemandexpo.com), the pre-eminent event for commercial printers, publishers, and in-plant printing professionals, today announced the top production printing trends to watch for in 2008 according to InfoTrends.

InfoTrends analysts will address the trends during the On Demand Conference & Expo, which will take place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from March 4-6, with tutorials on Monday, March 3, 2008.

Each year, InfoTrends analysts consider what key developments are likely to impact the market in the coming year. According to 2008 predictions, some of the top trends to watch for in 2008 will be production colour inkjet technology, TransPromo, and the “going green” movement.

2008 will be a big year for high-speed high-volume roll-fed inkjet product roll-outs. This will ultimately have an impact on cut-sheet digital and offset volumes as the speed, productivity, quality, media latitude, and cost-of-operation of this new generation of products gains the attention of print service providers.

“Last year’s InfoTrends-sponsored TransPromo Summit demonstrated that there is a high level of interest in this area, and not only from vendors, but also from document owners,” commented Jim Hamilton, a Group Director at InfoTrends. “The recent acquisitions of Document Sciences and Exstream, key players in this developing area, underscore how seriously the market is evaluating this trend.”

The trend toward environmentally friendly processes and the sustainability of print has also been gaining momentum through 2007, and there are no signs that it’s likely to stop any time soon. Print service providers are going green by seeking out recycled papers, buying carbon shares, and planting trees, in large part because their customers are demanding it. Digital printing system vendors are highlighting the ecological advantages of their systems and positioning their corporate strategies with an emphasis on how green they are. Government policies are also playing an ongoing role.

To learn more about these trends and much more, join InfoTrends analysts at the 15th Annual On Demand Conference. The On Demand conference offers more than 50 sessions designed to help you get – and stay – a step ahead of the technology curve. This year’s speakers include leading industry experts, analysts, and printing executives who will be on hand to discuss how to capture emerging market opportunities.
