“When I started out I was often the only woman in a room of 300 men at printing industry events, whether it be in Australia, New Zealand, drupa or Ipex,” Women in Print Australia (WIP) founder Susan Heaney told this week’s heavily subscribed WIP webinar.

Women in Print pioneer Susan Heaney addresses this week's WIP webinar

Heaney, managing director of Heaneys Performers In Print on Queensland’s Gold Coast, this month was appointed the new chair of the re-launched WiP program - now in partnership with industry group The Real Media Collective (TRMC). Heaney told the webinar she was at a print conference in 2006 in New Zealand - where a successful Women in Print program had been run for years - when she was approached by Heidelberg about bringing a similar program across the Tasman. The first WIP event in Australia was held in 2007.

TRMC CEO Kellie Northwood says Thursday’s inaugural Patrons Panel webinar - organised to replace the popular WIP nationwide breakfast series – was heavily subscribed.

“An amazing turn-out of attendees in a tight turnaround of rolling out the event and with only 6 seats left spare it was all but a sell-out,” Northwood said. “Thank you to those who were able to make it, however if you missed it, you can download or view the webinar here or in the link below. Thank you to our Patrons, Susan Heaney (QLD), Sandy Aspinall (SA), Natalie Taylor (NSW), Kirsten Taylor (VIC), Marisa Symrneos (SA), Lisa Blachut (WA) – they do give a lot of their time and are wonderful to work with, I'm sure you’ll all agree with me, these intelligent, capable and passionate women are a joy to listen to and learn from.

“The comments, suggestions, feedback and questions from the audience was really welcomed, we’ve taken notes on all your great ideas and we have already received a heap of emails with more volunteers and options on how we can all grow this wonderful community further. It’s an exciting time.”
