Every now and then we see an example of wide format inkjet printing that stands out as brilliant promotion and innovative use of space. Chatswood, Sydney barber Kleames Dawod has used just about every available wall and glass space to express his passion for Liverpool FC – currently top of the UK Premier league at time of writing.

The busy LFC Barber shop in Archer Street, Chatswood

Kleames came to Australia in 1992 but has been a huge fan of ‘The Reds’  - Liverpool FC - since age 10 in his native northern Iraq. He has been running LFC Barbers since 1995 and now his son Anleel is also in the business. The shop is full of banners, posters, wall coverings, cut vinyl, decals – you name it if there is a space, Kleames has filled it with the glorious red motifs of Liverpool FC. Even the striped barber’s pole outside is festooned with vinyl-cut Liverpool ‘ Cormorants’ from the city’s coat-of-arms.

The largest print is on the ceiling – Kleames Dawod proudly standing on the terraces of Liverpool FC! Scarves, team shirts, gowns – all connect with wide format, dye-sublimation or vinyl-cut letters and names of past greats such as Rush, Gerrard, Dalglish and Suarez.

This is truly what being a great fan of a great club is all about – and very entertaining for customers coming in for their haircuts too (which by the way are excellent and very reasonably-priced!)

Does anyone else have any great examples of clever use of wide-format graphics in retail and services? We’d love to make it a regular feature – send images and details to: andy@wideformatonline.com.
