PrintEx - network, learn, look, shop and plan

This year, PrintEx incorporates Visual Impact Sydney and Label & Packaging Expo 2019, aiming to bring together the industry’s leading suppliers of technology, equipment and services, all under one roof at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

The expo stretches over more than 6,000m2, and includes a program of forums, seminars and workshops, with plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues from across the industry.

The expo’s floor is shaping up to be very impressive, albeit very much dominated by wide format digital suppliers. There is still plenty of space available for new exhibitors so, hopefully, some of those offset, flexo and labels & packaging suppliers will come onboard over the coming months and make the show complete – which was its original intention when first staged in 2003 at the old Darling Harbour exhibition centre.

Apart from Currie Group, Jet Technologies and Graph-Pack, and Bottcher; the ‘traditional’ offset and flexo suppliers are yet to commit to PrintEx at any level. Prepress and CtP is represented by Screen, WRH, Esko, EFI, PrintIQ, Tharstern, Currie Group, Colour Graphic Services, Starleaton and possibly Fujifilm if they share with Fuji Xerox but there is currently no sign of Kodak, Heidelberg, Komori, KBA, RMGT (Cyber/Ryobi) nor any major converting exhibitors such as Aldus-Tronics.

Labels & Packaging does have small footprint exhibitors from Gulmen, Rodden Graphics, Rotary Engineering, Guru Labels and MacDermid but one struggles to identify a real Labels & Packaging ‘show within a show’ area – hopefully this too will change over the coming months. Jet Technologies is co-exhibiting with Screen so they should bring their narrow web and flexo products to the show.

It could all be symptomatic of digital change within our industry but, with offset and flexo still accounting for over 90% of world printing, it’s reasonable to think they would show up to a trade show that is held every four years.
