“In March 2023, we launched the DGXPRESS brand focused on delivering high productivity with aggressive pricing to limited markets which have a growing demand for signage,” said Tony Miller, president of Roland DG’s global sales and marketing division. “Initially, we introduced two UV ink models, and today, we are expanding our lineup with a new 64” eco-solvent model, the ER-642.”

With new, larger-size printheads which can eject finer ink droplets at higher density plus newly developed, high-speed data control technology, the ER-642 achieves productivity of 46.8 m2/h in 900 x 600 dpi mode for PVC printing and 76.1 m2/h in 600 x 1200 dpi mode for banner printing.

“By painstakingly pursuing the ultimate balance between image quality and speed in a combination of printhead ejection control, ink composition, and printer mechanisms, we made it possible to output beautiful graphics with vivid colours, neutral grays, and smooth gradations even during high-speed production,” Miller said. “In addition, we were able to make the product more cost-effective by adopting our latest printer platform with meticulously standardized parts and by narrowing essential functions.

“A number of features to improve work efficiency are included, such as a media setting that automatically collects media when it is inserted for easy, more accurate loading, a take-up unit that minimizes skew to ensure accurate media winding, and a perforated sheet cutter that separates media along perforations between print jobs. In addition, customers can now easily replace caps, wipers, wiper cleaners, and other items around the printhead that previously required replacement by service personnel, minimizing downtime due to waiting.”

The ER-642 comes standard with VersaWorks 6 professional RIP software with a range of features to support output operations, and with Roland DG Connect, a cloud-based service.

“The ER-642 was born from our desire to provide the best quality printing and productivity for as many people as possible by incorporating the latest innovative technologies,” Miller said. “In addition to a superior product, we provide a complete lineup of everything required for a successful print business, including inks, RIP, media profiles, manuals, and maintainability – all at an affordable price. It is our hope to continue to expand our product lineup to advance new creative and business possibilities for people around the world.”
