As the Australian Sign & Graphics Association (ASGA) calendar of events is taking shape for 2024, the association is moving to mix up their offering by introducing Social Bowls events in each State during the year. Go green!

ASGA SA BowlsgroupASGA SA championed the Bowlo social as an alternative to golf - now it's going nationwide

The events will be informal evenings, says ASGA's Event Manager, Michael Punch, and will provide those who don’t play golf, or who can’t commit the amount of time required to attend the association’s popular Golf Days, with a chance to connect with industry colleagues.

“The ASGA Board is conscious that not everyone is proficient in golf expertise, nor can everyone afford the time away from their businesses to attend full-day events,” Michael says.  ASGA michael punch asga 3ASGA's Michael Punch

“Over the past decade ASGA has held very popular industry golf events in four States thanks to strong sponsorship from sign and print companies and great support from the industry. These events are always notable for their camaraderie, but we think a social game at the local bowling club will be the perfect way to provide a more relaxed, end of the day get-together with a fun focus and plenty of opportunities to connect.”

The format has been successfully piloted by ASGA’s South Australian Committee over the past couple of years, with the 2023 event sponsored by ORAFOL attracting more than 30 local industry identities to enjoy networking in a convivial atmosphere. Future events will follow a similar format, Michael says, with plenty of food platters, drinks and some fun as the art of bowls is unwrapped.

Dates set for Melbourne & Brisbane - roll up!

The first such events are now locked in for Melbourne at the Melbourne Bowling Club at Windsor on Friday 16 th February, immediately following the ASGA Annual General Meeting at 4pm that evening, with another locked in for Brisbane at the BOO at 5pm on Friday 23rd February.

“Already, 24 ‘bowlers’ have registered for the Brisbane event and we expect the Melbourne night, with its iconic venue at the oldest bowling club in Australia and the added attraction of being able to arrive early to hear the latest updates and plans from ASGA, and have your say at the Annual General Meeting, will be an extremely popular event,” Michael says.

If you’d like to have some fun as you bowl into 2024, you can connect with Michael by email at Michael_punch@signs.org.au  and submit attendee names to register for your local event. Details for all Social Bowls nights, golf days and other events will be available on the ASGA Calendar as soon as they are confirmed – go to signs.org.au and check under ‘Events &  News / Current Events’.
