“Online job approvals for colour-critical clients are inevitable,” says colour expert Alan Dresch, who will address this week’s Industry Insights PrintEx Forum from 11:30am on Thursday 14th May; “it’s a question of when, not if.”

Dresch’s vision of PQM – Print Quality Management – is already a reality for many print specifiers and purchasers in Europe where brand managers will only buy print and packaging from sources who can supply measured, numerical data over the internet prior to approval for the print run.
“The days where brand print buyers travel great distances, even overseas and spend hours onsite performing press checks are rapidly coming to a close,” says Dresch, “Once the PQM processes are in place, with the printer at one end and the print buyer at the other; the measured data becomes the approval factor rather than subjective visual inspection.”

Brand PQM is based around ISO 12467 and constant auditing, spot checking and training for certified printers. Dresch cites seven criteria for a successfully certified printer, needing:
•    An active colour quality team
•    Departmental Procedures and work instructions
•    Records of production metrics
•    Training records and individual competencies
•    Continuous Improvement and the Team approach
•    Instrument care, accuracy and calibration
•    Management Commitment
At PrintEx, Dresch, who is Managing Director of Mellow Colour, UK, will talk delegates through how a total PQM environment is achieved and will conduct a hands-on mini-workshop where the results can be seen in real time.
Mellow Colour is represented in Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia by Colour Graphic Services who also have a stand at PrintEx (1404).
