A new ‘short stay’ accommodation option has been added to the options available for Australian printers visiting drupa in 2012.

The ‘short stay’ option allows visitors to tailor their stay to less than seven days, which is the current standard drupa booking period.

Printing Industries'Get Ready to Succeed drupa tour travel agents Eastern Suburbs Travel made the option available this week after extensive discussions with their Düsseldorf hotels based on feedback from intending drupa travellers.

“Currently this option is available only for the Mercure Hotel Dusseldorf Hafen and that hotel has only 15 rooms left, so it is literally a case of first come first served,” according to Printing Industries National Communication and Technical Services Manager, Joe Kowalewski.

“Location is everything and the Düsseldorf district hotel accommodation won’t last given some 400,000 people from 138 countries are expected to descend on the city during the two-week May exhibition,” he said.

“On top of that accommodation prices seasonally ‘adjust’ upwards as the event nears and available accommodation options dry up.”

The Hafen is located near the Rhine embankment in Dusseldorf’s South Bilk District. Close by is the tramway as well as a fast commuter train station providing easy access to the Dusseldorf exhibition centre.

Mercure Hotel Dusseldorf Hafen, which has recently been extensively renovated, is a 160 room complex of double rooms, maisonettes and suites, all with modern furnishings, bath or shower, direct-dial telephone, colour TV, air-conditioning, mini bar and hair-dryer.

The tour has other hotels in Düsseldorf ranging in price from the economy seven night land package from $1600 per person - twin share to the more expensive premium priced rooms and suites.

An 11 day pre drupa Anzac Day tour option is also available beginning in Istanbul, Turkey on 22 April 2012 before moving to Gallipoli visiting the WW1 battlefields on Gallipoli Peninsular, war memorials at Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair and Johnston’s Jolly, the trenches and ANZAC museum.

Participants stay overnight to attend the ANZAC Dawn Service at ANZAC COVE on 25 April before continuing a tour of the region which ends just in time for the first drupa week.
