DES will be show imaging professionals the benefits of becoming a total solutions provider to clients.
That means offering not just an expert photographic and imaging service, but the auxiliary services that are usually outsourced, including photobooks, printing and framing images.

DES Pty Ltd will show Innova Art’s range of JetMaster Display Frames and Hahnemühle Gallerie Wrap at the Digital Fine Art Roadshow in Melbourne next week, to demonstrate to photographers the benefits of in-house framing and other post-imaging processes.

According to DES sales director, Russell Cavenagh, past practices of outsourcing framing tend to hamper a photographer’s competitiveness. He cited the negative impact of having to cost a framing job for a customer and adding the outsourcer’s profit margin on top of the overhead costs of a staff member and a courier to despatch the job both ways.

“Not surprisingly, more photographers in Australia are converting themselves into one-source suppliers of everything that follows the original photograph. This can include posters, blow-ups, photobooks, and the highly profitable framing process,” he said.
The company’s JetMaster display frames, winners of the Innovation Award at the 2011 UK Art & Framing Industry Awards, were a popular attraction at the Digital Fine Art Roadshows held in Brisbane and Sydney. As a means of creating tough, lightweight and stylish gallery wraps in minutes, JetMaster created considerable interest among photographers who are still outsourcing their framing orders.

Hahnemühle Gallerie Wraps are images printed on a quality canvas digital medium, such as Hahnemühle Daguerre Canvas 400gsm or Hahnemühle Monet Canvas 410gsm, then stretched and mounted on a frame with the image wrapped around the edges. In recent years, this type of presentation has become extremely popular because of the artistic look it lends to almost any image.

Traditionally, to obtain the Gallerie wrap look this work would have been outsourced to a specialist framing shop. But with the new Hahnemühle Gallerie Wrap system, photographers can make the canvas print, stretch and fasten it to the frame in their studio in just five minutes.

The DES stand at the Melbourne Roadshow will also show the latest Hahnemühle and Chromajet ranges of photo and fine art papers, specially designed to produce perfect prints from all leading brands of aqueous printers, as well as the multi-award winning Baryta, Sugar Cane, Metallic photo papers and the company’s full range of specialist inkjet media.

Also being demonstrated in Melbourne is Canon’s latest range of imagePROGRAF professional printers. These 12-colour wide-format printers deliver outstanding results on a wide range of media and substrates. DES is offering some exceptional Roadshow deals, including a free Canon 5D MKII camera and media (valued at over $4,000) when purchasing a Canon 24” iPF6350 printer.

At the Sydney Roadshow this week, X-Rite product manager at DES, Mark Wilton, reported strong interest in the company’s i1Display Pro calibration and profiling system. He indicated that acceptance of the concept was gaining traction among photographers, designers and imaging professionals.

“The i1Display features i1Profiler software for calibrating and profiling all modern display and projector technologies, including LED and wide gamut LCDs,” he said. “It's also spectrally calibrated, which makes it field-upgradeable to support future display technologies”.
