Dainippon Screen has a new Australian Managing Director, the first non-Japanese chief in Screen’s 25-year history here.

Peter Scott steps up from National Sales Manager to Managing Director following a twelve-year career with the company both in Australia and the USA. Prior to joining Screen, Scott was with prepress Rip and imagesetter pioneer Hyphen and also spent time with Heidelberg when distribution was through Seligson & Clare.

“It is an enormous honour to be entrusted with leading Screen’s business in Australia and New Zealand,” says Scott,” and I am grateful for the experience handed down from our departing Managing Director Akira Hayakawa. The team we have is very stable, so we know each other well and I look forward to, and am confident in, continued success for Screen in my new role.”
Hayakawa will continue his association with the ANZ market by remaining as a director of the local subsidiary and making occasional visits. However, his new role in Kyoto will include Screen Europe and it is anticipated that Screen Australia will eventually become more autonomous.

Akira-san’s farewell was marked last week by a private luncheon attended by local staff. He is pictured here together with his wife and the team. Following completion of studies, his family will join him in Kyoto.

Scott concludes: “I am sure I speak for all Screen Australia staff members in expressing my thanks to Akira Hayakawa, who has steered us through very challenging times, and wish him and his family all the very best when they return to Kyoto, world headquarters of Dainippon Screen.”
